MIDLOTHIAN — The Midlothian High School Pantherettes will be having a show for friends and family at 6 p.m. at the high school’s Koonce Gym, Feb. 12.

The annual event is called “Contest Show Off” and is free of charge.

Squad dance leaders from Walnut Grove and Franke Seale middle schools will join the 19 members of the Pantherettes during the event. Leaders of the middle schools will perform all of the contest routines also.

Basketball fans had an opportunity to see the Pantherettes perform at halftime of the Midlothian Panthers’ and Lady Panthers’ varsity games on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

“It was a preview of what we are going to do; it also prepares our girls for contest,” Pantherettes director Laura Truett said. “We want to get them in front of an audience as many times to better prepare them for contest.”

This year the Pantherettes are entering jazz, lyrical, modern and prop. The officers will enter jazz, lyrical, modern and an open category.

The squad leaders will enter jazz, pom and novelty.

The season certainly doesn’t end with the conclusion of football season. The Pantherettes continue to perform during basketball season at select games. And perhaps one of the most important parts of the school year is still forthcoming.

The following is a Pantherettes’ schedule:

MA Officer State Competition, in Austin, Feb. 7; American Regionals, in Kilgore, Feb. 14; MA Regionals, in Lewisville, at Hebron High School, Feb. 28; ShowMakers Nationals, Brigham Young University, March 14.

“There is really only one month that we have off, that would be in July,” Truett said.
