The Waxahachie High School cross country teams kicked off the season on Friday evening in the Hawk Invite, a Hebron High School event.

Overall both Waxahachie teams did well as the Indians finished second in Class 4A while the Lady Indians finished fourth in Class 4A.

In the boys race the Indians finished with 91 points. Krum won the event with 89 points.

The top runner for Waxahachie was Donald Kirshner with a time of 10:59:28. Seth Powers also made a strong showing for Waxahachie.

Sam Shropshire and Luke Shatwell placed in the top-25 on the junior varsity level with more than 250 runners.

For the Lady Indians, Rebecca Chagnon and Elizabeth Martinez, returning regional qualifiers, placed in the top-10.

Martinez finished fifth with a time of 13:13:50 while Chagnon finished sixth with a time of 13:17:18.

Freshman Calli Bigham performed well for the varsity girls in her first run on the varsity level.

The Lady Indians finish fourth overall with 125 points. Rockwall Heath claimed first place with 48 points.

Teri Foster and Lexy Slovacek performed well for the junior varsity girls.

Friday both Waxahachie teams will compete in the Elk Run at Burleson. The running starts at 8 a.m. with the varsity girls.
