The Waxahachie Indian golf team opened its 2011 fall season with a tournament appearance in Fort Worth.

Five members of the team competed in the 2011 Bart Granger Memorial tournament.

The tournament, played at Pecan Valley Golf Course, is the largest high school tournament in the United States and features 54 teams.

As a team, the Indians shot 318-319 before the final round was rained out.

That result was good for 38th place out of the 54 teams.

But head coach Ron Siebert said itís not about the results at this point, but more about practice and getting ready for the season.

Ryan Galligan was the top performer for the Indians, shooting a 78-78.

Robert Keith was just behind him with a 79-80.

Cody Martin shot a 82-79.

Kyle Yates finished his rounds with scores of 80-82.

Mac Tekell shot a 81-85.

The varsity boys team will tee off again in the Cleburne Invitational at Links Golf Cleburne Oct. 14-15.

That will be the first of three tournaments over a four-week span for the team.

The last of those events will be the Jimmy Lofland Memorial Golf Tournament at Waxahachie Country Club Nov. 11-12.

The varsity girls team will hit the links for the first time this fall Oct. 3 against Arlington High School at Shady Valley.

That will be the first of four events in a six-week stretch for the Lady Indians.

The next time any Waxahachie golf team will play is when the varsity boys B team and JV boys 1 team competes in the Legacy Invitational at Southern Oaks tomorrow.

The JV boys 2 team and freshman boys will be playing at Waxahachie Country Club a week from today.

The Lady Indians freshman team will also start a week from today at the Waxahachie Country Club.
