Red Oak entered play in need of making a move on the rest of District 15-4A. At 1-3 the Hawks trailed leaders Lancaster and Midlothian by three games in the win column and two in the loss column.
A 59-51 win over Ennis on Tuesday set the tone for the week of Hawk basketball.
Melvin Johnson (18), Greg Edwards (15) and Justin Bryan (14) paved the way for the 8-point win over the Lions on the road in Ennis.
Despite being down 28-25 at the half and 43-41 entering the final period, the Hawks ralled back to score 18 points and used a tenacious man to man press to hold Ennis to just 8 fourth quarter points.
Friday night, the Hawks hosted Corsicana in old fashioned slug fest.
The Hawks rallied to come from behind to take the 75-73 thriller, but had to hang on to do so.
Corsicana took a 29-22 lead into the locker at the half, but the Hawks exploded for 30 points in the third stanza to lead 52-44.
The Tigers roared back in the fourth period to outscore the home team 17-9, just short of sending the game into overtime.
Melvin Johnson hit for 34 points, while Greg Edwards 13, George Hinchen 11, Trevor Conner 8, Justin Bryan 4, Guy Edwards 3 and Jimmy Granzow 2 all made the scoring column.
Red Oak (3-3) is now in fourth place in the race for a playoff berth. Lancaster (6-0) leads the district with Midlothian (5-1) and Waxahachie (4-2) hot on their heels.
Seguin (2-4), Corsicana (1-5) and Ennis (0-6) round off the pack.
The Mighty Hawks will have the opportunity to move into a tie with Waxahachie on Friday when they play host to the Runnin’ Indians.
