LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Drew Garcia and Daniel Pellegrino each had two RBIs and Mark Samuelson went 4-for-5 and scored three runs to help UC Riverside defeat Texas Tech 8-6 on Tuesday.
Texas Tech (12-11) took an early 2-0 lead as Roger Kieschnick got his 11th home run of the season, a two-run shot to right center that scored Jason Seefeld. Seefeld hit a two-run homer in the fifth.
UC Riverside (6-12) scored three runs in the top of the second Justin Shultz, who went 2-for-2 with one RBI and scored two runs, singled to score Aaron Wible. Samuelson scored on a fielder's choice and Shultz stole home. Samuelson scored on a groundout by Pellegrino in the fourth and a single by Pellegrino in the fifth. Shultz scored on a single by Trevor Hairgrove by in the fourth.
Seefeld's homer cut the UC Riverside lead to 6-4. Each team scored a run in the sixth and eighth innings. D.J. Smith picked up his first save of the year as he struck out two Red Raiders to end the ninth with two players stranded.
Paul Applebee (1-4) got the win as he allowed three runs on six hits and struck out two in 5 1-3 innings. Sam Janca (1-1) took the loss, giving up three runs on three hits and striking out two in 1 2-3 innings.
