Ferris at Wills Point
The Ferris Yellow Jackets gave up 35 points in the first half in week one on the way to a 49-24 loss at Grapevine Faith.
Senior running back and free safety Robert Grady was the bright spot for Ferris (0-2) by rushing for 200 yards on 25 carries and scoring two touchdowns. Grady also had one catch for 18 yards and six tackles on defense.
The running back will have his work cut out for him this week against Wills Point. The Tigers (1-1) are coming off a 3-0 win in a defensive struggle against Gladewater.
Maypearl at Venus
The Venus Bulldogs will look to start their first winning streak since they won back-to-back wins in 2009. The Bulldogs (1-1) defeated Dallas Adamson last week to get their first win after 19 straight loses.
Sophomore quarterback Heath Dugan was 7-10 for 132 yards and a touchdown last week. Eddie Morgan led the team on the ground with 66 yards on five carries, immediately followed by Steven Prater who ran eight times for 60 yards and a touchdown.
Shon Swanner was Dugan’s favorite target with three catches for 79 yards.
The Maypearl Panthers (0-2) are coming off a 48-7 loss against Tolar.
Palmer at Italy
The Palmer Bulldogs gave up 232 yards through the air as they fell 41-12 at Mildred.
The two top performers for Palmer (1-1) last week were quarterback Judge Wolfe and his favorite target, Jason Burgett. Wolfe was 10-28 for 171 yards and a touchdown through the air and ran for 62 yards and another score on the ground. Burgett caught seven passes for 123 yards and a touchdown as Wolfe’s main target. Burgett also added 25 yards on five carries.
The Italy Gladiators (1-1) are coming off a tough 21-8 loss to Mart. Junior running back Jalarnce Lewis led the Gladiators with 10 carries for 73 yards and a touchdown.
Red Oak Life at
The Life School Mustangs have had two rough games to start 2011, but they will look to turn the year around on the road at Garland Christian Academy.
Despite their 53-6 loss at Buffalo in week one, the Mustangs (0-2) were led by quarterback Cooper Spurgin, who was 14-33 with 221 yards and a touchdown. Spurgin’s favorite target was Michael Forde, who had seven catches for 76 yards and a touchdown.
The Garland Christian Swordsmen (2-0) have scored a combined 123 points in their first two games.
Milford at Oakwood
The Milford Bulldogs are coming off a game in which they scored 64 points, but couldn’t pull out the win.
A slow start doomed Milford (1-1) as it trailed 32-14 at halftime. Jairus Russell led the Bulldogs’ offensive assault with 105 yards rushing on 12 carries, two for touchdowns. He also completed nine of 12 passes for 129 yards and three touchdowns. Russell also had a 59-yard touchdown reception.
Milford’s defense will be tested again as it faces Oakwood (1-0), which won 88-44 last week.
Milford shut out Oakwood 46-0 last season.
Avalon vs. Tyler Street Christian
The Avalon Eagles will face the Tyler Street Christian Crusaders in a matchup of teams looking for their first wins.
Last week, the Eagles (0-2) were outscored 50-20 in the first half as they fell 88-40.
The Crusaders (0-2) also had their defense burned in a 60-12 loss last week.
The Advantage Academy Eagles (0-2) scored six points in each of their first two games.
They will need to score more than a half-dozen against Fruitvale (0-1), which scored 41 points in a loss in week one.
