Avalon Eagles defeated the Covington Owls 14-0 in only five innings to win the bi-district title on Saturday at Hill College.

John De La Garza was on the mound for the Eagles, throwing a no hitter. John struck out 14 out of 17 batters he faced and only one ball was hit into play.

Leading the Eagles on offense was Manuel Urbazzo going 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs and scored two runs.

Dustin Bruner went 2 for 2 with a RBI and scored three runs.

For the day Avalon Eagles had eight hits with no errors with Covington having no hits and three errors.

Avalon will face Clyde Eula in the Area round of playoffs in a 2 of 3 series starting Tuesday at 7 p.m. followed by a double header, if necessary, on Friday beginning at 5 p.m. All games will be played in Fort Worth at Southwest Christian School.

“The kids played hard the whole game today, never letting up, head coach Tony Hernandez said. “They stayed aggressive on the bases and took advantage of Covington errors. John threw a great game and Nathan Berneking did an even better job behind the plate. I’m real proud of this team.”
