PALMER — A panel of District 6-3A athletic directors and head coaches selected five Palmer High School football players All-District second team honors, six as honorable mentions and five for the Academic All-District team Tuesday.

Despite finishing the season 1-9 and their district schedule 1-6, the Bulldogs were well represented on the All-District team — specifically at the cornerback, linebacker, defensive linemen wide receiver and tight end positions.

Gunner Barnes (CB), Jonathan Archibald (TE, ILB), Caleb Hernandez (OL, DT) Abraham Mejorado (DE) and Greg Smith (OLB) all claimed second team selections. Cole Yarborough (WR), Dylan Villasenor (WR), Ruben Cisneros (RB) Brian Black (OL, DT), Rudy Segura (OL, DT) and Dakota Hernandez (TE, DE) received second team honorable mentions.

Barnes, Black, Cisneros and Dakota Hernandez are the only seniors in the group of awardees. Archibald, Caleb Hernandez, Mejorado, Segura, Smith, Yarborough and Villasenor are expected to rejoin the team next year for their senior and junior seasons.

Barnes, Yarborough, James Hernandez and Walker and Wesley Greenlee earned a place on the 2016 Academic All-District Football Team after earning individual grade point averages of 3.1 or higher during the fall semester.
