Tommie Lee Owens, a resident of Alvarado, passed away June 5, 2007, at the age of 60. He worked for 22 years at Downtown Motors in Irving as a mechanic before being disabled by a stroke several years ago.

Tommie was born January 28, 1947, in Dallas, and was raised in Grand Prairie. His first wife was Jean McKellep Owens from Irving, with whom he had three wonderful sons (he called them “my boys,” with a sparkle in his eyes). Tommie later married his second wife Laura Lillian Owens of Irving.

One of 12 children, Tommie was the twin of Donnie Lee Owens. All of Tommie’s brothers and sisters would like to give a very special thank you to Billy Hinson and Stephanie Dorton for always being there for their brother.

Tommie was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Opal Owens, and Vick Owens, his brother. He is survived by his wife, Laura Owens; his sons James Owens and wife Jennifer, Tommie Owens Jr. and Chris Owens; four grandchildren Olivia Owens, Shyann Owens, Sarah Owens and Shawn Owens; twin brother Donnie Owens; brothers Jeral Owens, Kelley Owens and wife Cheryl; sisters Mary Ritter and husband Harold, Star Rogers and husband John, Dorothy Wilcoxen and late husband Larry, Billie Kennedy and husband Jimmy, Joyce Boucher and husband Robert, Jill Abplanalp and husband Steve; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13, at Skyvue Funeral Home in Mansfield.
