Roland G. Rogers, 82, passed away Friday morning at Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie. He was born in Waxahachie to Steve R. Rogers and Virgie Williams Rogers. He was raised in Waxahachie, graduating from Waxahachie High School in 1945. After serving with the U.S. Army during W.W. II, he married Dorothy Boyd on Dec. 24, 1946, in Waxahachie. He was a longtime member of Farley Street Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and served on numerous committees. He was employed with Texas Baptist Home for Children as the internal manager and later director of maintenance, retiring after 31 years of service. He was an avid fisherman and golfer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy Rogers of Waxahachie; two daughters, Glenda Pevehouse and her husband Morris of Red Oak, Vikki Odom and her husband Randy of Waxahachie; a son, Alan Rogers and his wife Suzanne of Red Oak; a sister, Margree Mitchell of Fort Worth; a sister-in-law, Ina Shireman of Huntsville, seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a brother.
The family received friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The celebration of life was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel with Pastors Lance Odom and Chad Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at Waxahachie City Cemetery.
