Robert Allen Byrd was born in Cleburne, Texas, on May 30, 1941, and passed away Aug. 20, 2009. The sixth child of Charlie B. and Myrtle Bertha Byrd, he was raised in Midlothian and graduated from Midlothian High School in 1959. He attended Abilene Christian University and in August of 1963 was awarded his bachelorís of science degree in accounting. Robert began his career as a CPA in 1964. On June 30, 1967 he married Shirley Belle Smith of Cleburne. Robert was a lifelong resident of Midlothian, a member of the Church of Christ, an active member of the Lions Club and a great friend to many, never hesitating to help anyone in need.
Robert is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shirley; three daughters, Katrina Smith and husband Doug of Wolfforth, Texas, LaShawna Petty and husband James of Alvarado, Texas, Robyn Brus and husband Andy of Midlothian. He was a great Dad, and an even better Papa. His seven grandchildren brought him the most joy, Kirsten Grace Smith, Reagan Alexandra Smith, Luke Arden Smith, Devon Alexander Petty, Cameron Jarell Petty, Zachary Robert Brus and Benjamin Marshall Brus.
He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Belle Smith; three sisters,† Merlene Coulson of Hurst, Texas, Bertha Keith of Hermiston, Ore., and Patricia Cox of Granbury, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his father and mother; a sister, Ruby Baxter; and† two brothers, C.B. Byrd and Marvin Byrd all of Midlothian.
Pallbearers were members of the Midlothian Lions Club.
Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Byrd, Michael Byrd, Keith Baxter, Tommy Baxter, Gary Don Coulson, Richard Byrd, Allen Byrd, Mike Pallet, Ricky Stephens and Charles Wilson.
