Helen LaVoyce Keith Brown, 78, from Midlothian went home to be with the lord at 3 p.m. July 20, 2012, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born Oct. 19, 1933 in San Angelo, Texas to Lloyd and Gladys Keith.  

LaVoyce married her high school sweetheart, Robert Edward Brown, on Sept. 15, 1951, in Gulfport Miss.

After Robert returned from Korea, they lived in San Antonio, Texas, where their first daughter, Deborah Kay was born. They then moved to Lubbock, Texas so Robert could attend Texas Tech University. Their twin daughters, Rhonda Lee and Donna Anne where born in Lubbock.

LaVoyce traveled with her husband and daughters living in Houston; Shreveport; Texarkana, Texas; Kingston, Jamaica; Stone Mountain, Ga. and finally settling in Midlothian in 1972 buying the famous “Brown Farm.” Together they went into the dairy business milking more than 200 head of cattle until Robert’s death in 1986.  

LaVoyce was a member of the Ellis Art Association where she took art classes weekly.  She had many hobbies including ceramics, sewing, quilting, woodwork, cooking, junking and playing with her grandchildren.  

She is survived by daughters, Deborah Gilbert and her husband, Eddie, Donna Geyer and her husband, Michael; son-in-law, Gary Minter; grandchildren: Cheyenne Schweikert and her husband, Todd, Sierra and Zachary Gilbert, Chris Minter and his wife, Cristina, Brent Minter, Jenny Minter, Jason Smesny and his wife, Cassy, Steve Smesny and his wife, Christy, Bryan Smesny; great-grandchildren, Thomas Gilbert and Grayson Smesny; brothers: Doug Keith and his wife, Donna, Andy Keith and his wife, Louise; many nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Edward Brown; daughter, Rhonda Minter; grandson, Matthew Minter; her parents, Lloyd Keith and Gladys Fertech; brother R.L. Keith; and sister, Edith Hopes.

Viewing was held Monday, June 23, 2012 at Midlothian Funeral Home. Service were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012, and conducted by Jerry Bloomfield. Gravesite service was held at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
