Mary “Pete” McColley, 81, of Red Oak passed away Feb. 5, 2011, in a Dallas hospital with her loving husband by her side. She was born to the late Martin E. and Alice A. Scoggins Vandiver on Dec. 13, 1929, in Dallas, Texas.
A loving wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma and friend; she had a passion for life, serving the Lord and she lived it to the fullest. She was a true warrior of God. She was in the nursing field for more than 30 years and loved every one of her patients. She never met a stranger and loved to tell others about the Lord. Her family and friends were her life and she loved each and every one unconditionally. One word sums up her life; Mama was Love.
She is survived by her loving and doting husband, Jack L. McColley of Red Oak; her daughters, Lynda Pembleton and her husband, Bill of Clarksville, Tenn., Anne Horton and her husband, Larry of Ennis; her son, Rick Gorrell and his wife, Lori of Mesquite; her stepdaughter, Jenny Stodard and her husband, Steve of Irving; her stepson, John McColley and his wife, Kathy of Mesquite; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; her nephew, Martin Vandiver and his wife, Ann of Dallas; and hundreds of “adopted” kids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, M.E. Vandiver; her daughter, Carol Ward; her daughter-in-law, Tonya Gorrell; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services to celebrate her life are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at Gloryland Church in DeSoto with the Rev. Eddie Mayfield officiating. Interment will follow at Laurel Oaks Cemetery in Mesquite.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie.
