Lawrence “Possum” Banks, 82, passed away Wednesday evening May 20, 2009 at Baylor Medical Center in Waxahachie.

He was born in Waxahachie, to Walter B. Banks and Minnie Freeman Banks on Oct. 8, 1926.

He graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1944 and served with the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he married Gladys Watson in Waxahachie in 1952. Possum was a longtime owner/-employee of J&J Auto Parts in Dallas and Nappa Auto Parts in Waxahachie. He later was a truck driver with International Extrusion where he retired, and later was a driver/runner for Thornhill Auto Group.

Possum was a member of the Ferris Avenue Baptist Church, Men’s Downtown Bible Class, and IOOF No. 80 where he received his 50-year award and lifetime membership.

He loved his family being Daddy and PiPaw.

 He is survived by his daughter, Janice Maner and her husband Edwin; two grandchildren, Jennifer Ratzlaff and husband Brandon and their children Conner and Kennedy all of Midlothian and Eric Maner of Houston; a sister, Carrie Williams and her husband Troy of Mesquite; plus numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers and three sisters.

The family received friends and relatives from 5-7 p.m. Saturday May 23, at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The celebration of life was held at  2:30 p.m. Sunday, in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel with Tim Wallace officiating. Interment follow edat the Forreston Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Buddy Banks, Jim Stoffregen, Ted Stoffregen, Billy Stoffregen, Scott Williams and Walter Watson

Honorary Pallbearers were Frank Bradley, Rusty Hightower, J. Neil Wright and Rayes Gayten.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
