Larry D. Lewis, 52, departed this world for his new home in heaven on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, in Waxahachie.

He was born June 5, 1957 in Ennis, Texas to Derrell Francis and Wanda Eileen (Percival) Lewis. He grew up in Waxahachie and graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1976. He received an associateís degree in criminal justice from Navarro College.

He was a detective for the Waxahachie Police Department, a special agent and engineer with Southern Pacific Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 3894 Ė menís auxiliary in Waxahachie, and a member of the Cowboy Church of Ellis County.

He is survived by two sons, Daniel Lee Powers of Surprise, Ariz. and Justin Lee Lewis and his wife, Belen, of West Covina, Calif.; one daughter, Laura Sanders and her husband, Josh, of Surprise, Ariz.: three grandchildren, Hailey Kathryn Lewis, Olivia Eileen Lewis and Kyrste Grace Powers; two brothers, Lynn Lewis and his wife, Gina, of Waxahachie, and Lee Lewis and his wife, Tracie, of Garland; one sister, Nell Bishop, and her husband, Tom, of Red Oak; along with many loving nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at J.E. Keever Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow at Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the VFW Post No. 3894 menís Auxiliary of Waxahachie.
