Karen Ann Dahle, 71, passed away July 16, 2011, with her loving family by her side at her Waxahachie home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Aug. 14, 1939, Karen was the youngest of 10 children to Norman and Olga (Skar) Strand of Rice Lake, Wis. In 1957, she married W. Dean Dahle and briefly lived on both the east and west coasts and Chicago, Ill., while her husband served in the U.S. Navy. Eventually the young couple settled in Libertyville, Ill., to raise their three children. In 1980, she moved with her husband to Waxahachie.
Karen devoted her life to her family. She enjoyed the challenge of working crossword puzzles, traveling and in recent years she especially loved the companionship of her two dogs. She was a tremendous cook and enjoyed collecting and trying new recipes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Kevin Dahle; sisters, Gloria Rhode, Inez Strand, Lorraine “Betty” Gates, Edna Zingsheim; her brothers Morris, Myron and Gordon Strand; and also by her former husband of 46 years, Dean Dahle.
She is survived by her two daughters, Michelle Goforth and her husband, Paul, of Waxahachie and Cheryl Zink and her husband, Randy, of Palmer; her grandchildren, Kevin and Christin Goforth and Bradley Zink; and her great-grandchildren, Hayden Potter and Addison Butler. She is also survived by her brothers, Clarence Strand and Ronald Strand, both of Rice Lake, Wis.
A memorial service was held in Rice Lake, Wis., on Aug. 16, 2011, where her ashes were buried at the Campia Cemetery, near her beloved son, Kevin. After the graveside service, family and friends gathered at Quillens Big Bear in Mikana to reminisce and celebrate Karen’s life.
