Joyce Ann Ellison was born in Savoy, Texas, on Dec. 21, 1934, to Mancel James Ellison and Fae Allen Ellison. Joyce and her husband, T. Mack Stephens, moved to Waxahachie to live on a 100-acre ranch they dubbed Skyview Ranch, because of the view and the fact that it was located on the Buena Vista Road, which means “Beautiful View” in Spanish. She worked at a local daycare center in Waxahachie. In 1979, shortly after moving to the ranch, she had an aneurism which left her permanently disabled. For two years she recuperated with the help of a caring nurse named Carolyn Thomas, who was always quick with a smile and a joke and made sure she was fed and got up and moved around.
She is survived by her children, Scott Stephens, John Stephens and Lisa Jack; grandsons, Joshua Stephens, Justin Stephens and Brandon Bell; and granddaughter, Caitlyn Jack. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands, T. Mack Stephens and Bobby Jones; sister, Catherine Brown; and brother, George Ellison.
