James E. Collier of Ennis, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 in Ennis Care Center. He was 87.

James was born in Ennis on July 9, 1921 to parents James M. Collier and Lela Bond Collier. He was reared in Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School in 1939. On June 18, 1942, he married Sammye Garth. They lived in Dallas and Richardson. In 1969 they moved back to Ennis.

Mr. Collier was in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre on the USS Adams. He worked for TXU for 27 years as Supply supervisor.

He was a member of the Baylor Baptist Church and the IOOF Lodge in Ennis. He held several state officer positions for the IOOF.

He is survived by his wife, Sammye J. Collier of Ennis. One son Mike Collier and his wife Penny of McKinney. One daughter, Patsy and her husband David Davis of Lawrenceville, Ga. Three grandchildren: Jason Davis, Kayce Collier Mershon and Brett Davis. Six great-grandchildren: Alexis, Mackenzie, Emma, and Abby Davis, and Conner and Kamryn Sakson.

Services were held on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009 at 2pm in Keever Chapel. Interment was in Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary.
