Florence Naomi Davis (Lair) Morgan was born May 13, 1918, to Robert and Mary Davis in Waxahachie, Texas. She was the third of five children born to this union. At an early age she accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Joshua Chapel AME Church. She served there in many areas including music.

Sister Morgan graduated from Oak Lawn High School in 1935. She received her bachelorís degree from Prairie View A&M University and her masterís degree from Sam Houston State College. She started teaching in 1941 in a small two-room school in Oak Hill, Texas, teaching first through third grades. She also taught sixth grade at a number of schools in the Jasper and Kirbyville area including Rowe Middle School until she retired in 1978.

She was married to Earl L. Lair Sr. from 1941-1969, separated by his death. From that union came one son, Earl L. Lair Jr. Sister Morgan met John P. Morgan and was married to him from 1973-2002. This union also ended upon the death of her husband.

She was a member of Peaceful Rest Baptist Church for many years, where she was the choir musician. She later joined Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served in a number of ministries including music until her death.

Sister Morgan departed this life on Friday, Feb. 20. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her brother, Clarence Davis. She leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Robbie Howard; two brothers, Carroll Davis, Martin Van Davis Sr. and wife, Blynthia, all of Waxahachie; one son, Earl Lair Jr. and wife, Linda, of Houston; two grandsons, Earl III and Brian Sr.; one granddaughter, LaTonya Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Lindsey, Matthew and Brian Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
