Claranell “Clair” Adams Hines passed away Jan. 27, 2009, after having a stroke in 2005. She was born Sept. 2, 1925, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Francis Marion “Dank” Adams and Ruby Feagin Adams. The eldest of three, Clair had two brothers, Forrest and James Adams, who predeceased her. She graduated from Texas State College for Women with a bachelor’s degree. She began her career as a Braniff stewardess and further worked in the banking, legal and title fields. On June 12, 1948, Clair was married to John Rivers Hines Jr. in Fort Worth, Texas. They made their home in Dallas, Texas; Monroe, La.; Waxahachie, Texas; and lastly in Peaster (Parker County), Texas, where John passed away June 29, 1992. One child, John Rivers Hines III, was born to this marriage, and survives Clair. Clair is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Margaret Hines; and three granddaughters, Jennifer Lisette Powers, Leslie Anne Funderburk and Amanda Brooke Collier.

Clair was a published author for the Norwegian American Historical Society, being the great-great-granddaughter of Elise Warenskjold, one of the first Norwegian settlers of Texas.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, in Peaster Cemetery, nine miles north of Weatherford, Texas, with the Rev. Pam Holt, associate minister of Central Christian Church of Weatherford, officiating under the direction of J. E. Keever Mortuary Inc.
