Alice Shierk was born May 3, 1922, in Rockford, Ill., to Dora and Elliott Stone.  She graduated from St. Charles High School, then married Denzil O. Shierk Nov. 16, 1940, and lived most of her life in Illinois. Alice worked for the Chronicle Publishing Company more than 25 years. She was a founding member of the DuPage Center for Spiritual Living which she loved, along with reading, music, needlework, nature and most importantly, her friends and family. Twelve years ago Alice moved to Waxahachie where she has lived happily with her son and his family.

Alice passed away March 5, 2011, at Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie after a brief illness. As she always treasured family, she is loved and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother and sister-in-law, one son-in-law and many cousins. 

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Herman of Montgomery, Ill.; a son, Robert (Sandy) Shierk of Waxahachie; four grandchildren, Marlys (Steve) Blomquist of Oswego, Ill., Jenni (Jim) Troutman of Houston, Texas, Stacy (Travis) Johnson of Waxahachie and Chris Shierk of Sapulpa, Okla. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Keirstyn and Jamie Blomquist, Makayla and Ayden Johnson and Alexandria Troutman; and by beloved nieces and their families. 

A memorial service will be held for the family at a future date.
