The Waxahachie YMCA Partners Kick Off Pep Rally is slated for 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Y gymnasium located at 100 YMCA drive.

Executive director Jeffery Moore said that the rally is the second of a two-phase program designed to raise funds for scholarships and financial assistance to Ellis County residents and surrounding areas that want to participate in the services offered by the Y.

“Our goal this year is $85,000 and as of right now, we have raised $58,500,” Moore said. “And the great thing about this program is, 100 percent of every dollar raised goes to the people.”

He said anyone that applies for the scholarships will be eligible to participate in any program sponsored by the YMCA including general membership, all sports competition, both children and adult, day camp, after school programs, child care and fitness/wellness programs.

“Regardless of where individuals live in Ellis County, they are eligible for this program,” he said.

Tonight’s Partners Pep Rally, which will consist of current and potential donors of the program, will include a pep rally, followed by a performance by the YMCA High Steppers and youth cheerleaders. Coach Dave Ream from Waxahachie High School and Sacha Whitehead, a YMCA partner and campaign chairperson, will also speak. A testimonial will be given by Wendi Lavelle, who, along with her three children, have taken advantage of the programs of the Y.

Moore, who has devoted his professional life to the YMCA, shares what the programs of the organization mean to families.

“There’s so much about the Y that I love – our programs give kids great opportunities to learn skills and values such as honor, respect and faith,” he said. “And I tell you, one of the highlights of my week is to coach a basketball team of second- and third-grade girls.”

Moore also shares his excitement concerning the new promotion of the organization.

“Our new catch phrase is that the YMCA seeks to nurture youth development, energize healthy living and inspire social responsibility,” he said.
