Due to the recent layoff of employees at United States Aluminum Corporation of Texas, RACO and International Extrusion, the Texas Workforce Commission will have its emergency mobile unit in Waxahachie on Wednesday.

The unit will be located at 1712 W. U.S. Highway 287 Business, at the Texas Workforce building.

The mobile unit will assist recently laid-off employees through its rapid response program that allows job seekers to talk with a representative from unemployment in person to answer questions. Information will be provided about filing for unemployment and the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, which requires most employers with group health plans to offer employees the opportunity to continue temporarily their group health care coverage under their employer’s plan if their coverage otherwise would cease due to termination, layoff or other change in employment status.

The rapid response sessions will take place at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. On the mobile unit, 13 computers will be available for job seekers to use and employment counselors will be on hand.

The event will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; there is no cost to attend.
