Construction of the new Waxahachie Senior Citizen’s Center is underway.

Located on a six-acre tract on South Highway 77, Just south of Dunaway Elementary, the new center adjoins the 44 acre senior residential development complex built by developer Ken Mitchell.

The 18,000 square-foot Waxahachie Senior Citizen’s Center will contain a large game room, exercise room, craft room with kiln for ceramics, six meeting rooms, restrooms, a large ball room with an adjoining commercial kitchen and in the rear of the building, a large verandah for outdoor activities. It will be situated on a six-acre tract, donated by Mitchell.

“The slab is presently being poured for the first of three facilities built by Ken Mitchell which will be named “Country Lanes.” Hamilton also noted that Mitchell will build two other units, which includes an additional residential building and duplexes, all for senior citizens.

Hamilton said Mitchell is experienced in this type of construction, having completed similar complexes designed for senior citizens in McKinney and Temple.

“Mitchell will make other tracts of land within the 44 acres available for other senior care organizations to purchase and build on,” said Hamilton, noting such facilities as a nursing home and Alzheimer’s care unit.

Target date for completion of Senior Citizen’s Center is scheduled for late November 2008.
