The Waxahachie ISD school board has adopted a general operating budget of $46,016,010 with the entire budget totaling $99,149,366.

The remaining portion of the budget includes federal grants, construction funds, interest and sinking funds and enterprise funds.

The 2007-2008 budget reflects a 3.9 percent increase over the previous year’s budget.

On Monday, the board of trustees adopted a maintenance and operations tax rate of $1.04 along with an interest and sinking tax rate of $.32. The total tax rate for the district amounts to $1.36 for every $100 of assessed value.

The 2007-2008 budget includes a 3 percent pay raise for all employees as well as several new teaching and staff positions to compensate for the district’s continued growth.

“This budget allows the district to cover its day to day operations as well as pay for the construction of the new school buildings that are slated to open in August 2008 due to the passing of the 2006 school bond election,” said Teresa Thomas, assistant superintendent of finance. “Our budget reflects the district’s desire to maintain quality educational services to our students, while maintaining accountable oversight of taxpayers funds,” Thomas said.
