The second performance of the WISD Holiday Concert Series will feature the bands of Waxahachie High School.
The WHS bands will be featured at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in the Fine Arts Center.
“Although the bands performed as an entire unit during marching season, the concert season brings a few changes, one of which is that we now have three very diverse bands,” said Rich Armstrong, director of WHS bands. “The concert band is structured to provide additional, personalized instruction and support for students, while the symphonic band is larger and is somewhat graduated in its musical performances. The wind ensemble takes the absolute best musicians and performers and gives them the opportunity to be challenged to learn and perform music at the very top of the scale.”
Musical pieces to be presented range from “Winter Wonderland” to “The Christmas Song” to “Russian Christmas Music,” a 12-minute piece designed to take the listener from the heights of frenzied holiday preparation to the joyful sounds of hope and peace.
“We are very excited about the progress of each of the bands this year and the music we will be presenting at this concert, especially considering that most of our first semester focused entirely on our marching show,” Armstrong said.
“We invite the entire Waxahachie community to be our guests. Admission is free and refreshments will be served in the foyer following the concert,” Armstrong said.
We would love to see the many faces that supported us at football games and contests, so that we can have an opportunity to say “Thank You” and wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season,” Armstrong said.
