Cindy Smith of Waxahachie is the winner of the Waxahachie Daily Light “Where Am I? Discover Ellis County” contest for the week of June 18.
Smith wins a $10 gas card and a prize from Courtside Bar & Grill for correctly locating last week’s “Discover Ellis County” location.
Each Monday throughout the summer the Daily Light will publish a clue and a photo on an Ellis County location. Readers are being asked to discover the location and have a photograph taken of them holding up that Monday’s edition of the Daily Light in front of the location.
All correct entries received at the Daily Light office (200 W. Marvin Ave.) by 5 p.m. Friday will be included in a drawing for that week’s prizes. All correct entries will also be entered into the grand prize drawing which will take place at the end of the contest in August.
Other entries with the correct answer from last week’s contest are: Rebecca Smith, Crystal Parker and Janyce Brians, Rebecca King, Alan Anthony and grandson Charlie, Ann Bell, Carrie Shelton, Doris Lane, Joe Lane, Amanda Horton and daughter Lael, Kelly Johnson, Louis Ramos, Linda Morrison and Tammy Hill, all of Waxahachie.
Their names, along with Smith’s, will be eligible for the grand prize drawing at the conclusion of the summer contest, which will include a $100 gas card, subscription to the Daily Light and prizes from each week’s participating sponsors.
The clues for the June 18 contest were: CLUE 1 — First platted in 1889, this location was the site of a Civil War veterans’ reunion in 1892. CLUE 2 (published in Wednesday’s edition) — Named after the city’s most influential early citizens, this location is the site of not one but two Texas historical markers.
Last week’s discovery location was Getzendaner Park, located behind Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie. The park also serves as home to the Chautauqua Auditorium, another nationally famous historical structure located in Waxahachie.
