The Creative Quilter’s Guild of Ellis County presents its annual quilt show from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 20-21, at the Midlothian Conference Center. More than 100 quilts will be on display, with vendor booths, a charity auction, door prizes and raffle also offered.
General admission is $5, with $4 for seniors ages 60 and older. Husbands accompanied by a paying spouse receive free admission.

The Waxahachie Downtown Farmers Market is held every Saturday from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and continues through Oct. 27. The market is located at the south end of the Ellis County Courthouse on Franklin Street between Rogers and College. Vendors have fresh vegetables and fruits, plants, crafts and wares for purchase. Smoothies and other refreshments are also available. Master Gardeners are on site every week to answer agricultural questions.
Teen Movie Saturday
Teen Movie Saturday at Nicholas P. Sims Library is from 2:30-4:10 p.m. July 21 in the meeting room. This month’s movie stars AnnaSophia Robb, Josh Hutcherson and Zooey Deschanel. An 11-year-old boy has his life changed forever when he befriends the class outsider, a girl. Together they create an imaginary kingdom called Terabithia where they can create their own adventures with giants, trolls and other incredible creatures until tragedy ultimately befalls their friendship.
“Bring a friend and enjoy popcorn and a movie at the library,” a spokesman said.
Band of the Nation’s Capital in concert Monday
The Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau will host the Band of the Nation’s Capital, the 257th Army Band from Washington D.C., in concert at the Chautauqua Auditorium at 7 p.m. Monday, July 23.
With the motto of the U.S. Army bands being “Serving the Nation through Music,” the band will perform patriotic, classics, marches, vocal selections and more at this performance.
“It is an honor that Waxahachie was chosen as one of the cities to host this prestigious band,” said Laurie McPike Mosley, director of the Waxahachie Convention and Visitors Bureau. “I hope that everyone will come out and take advantage of this rare opportunity.”
The Chautauqua Auditorium is located in Getzendaner Park at 300 S. Grand Ave. Admission is free and no tickets are required.
