Incumbent Venus Mayor Carolyn Welcher held off two challengers in last Saturday’s elections, garnering more than half of the total vote and defeating the next-highest vote recipient by nearly 50 votes.

Welcher received 158 of the 310 votes cast in the race, whereas former Place 1 City Councilman Wayne Wadlington received 109 and Tim Leach received 43.

Running unopposed for the Place 1 City Council seat, former Place 2 City Councilman Randall Buck received 162 votes.

In the race for Buck’s former seat, Teresa Hoffman and Casa Gonzales faced off in the city’s closest race, with Hoffman coming out ahead 167 - 140.

Finally, in the city council’s last contested race, Jeannie Prazak defeated Aubrey “A.B.” Owens and Yvonne Shank for the unexpired term of the vacated Place 5, receiving 180 votes compared to 63 for Owens and 46 for Shank.

There was no election for the Venus Independent School District, as all candidates were running unopposed.
