TXU Energy donated a $40,000 check to Waxahachie CARE through its Energy Aid program Thursday.
Throughout 2007, TXU will provide the social service agency with financial contributions to help low-income residents with temporary bill payment assistance.
This program helps families in critical situations meet their needs through company contributions as well as customer and employee donations.
“One hundred percent of donations come back to this area,” said TXU Energy community relations manager Kim Campbell, noting all employee and customer donations are returned to the local communities in which they are donated to help those in need. “For every $1 that is donated, we match it by $5 locally.”
TXU Energy distributes the $5 million gift, along with TXU employee and customer contributions, back to local communities at a ratio of about $5 for every $1 locally donated.
Waxahachie CARE director Linda Naizer described receiving this check as “just another great gift from above.”
“The Lord is so good to us … that’s all I can say,” she said. “We’ve been blessed the entire year and he just keeps on blessing us.”
CARE will distribute the $40,000 according to the eligibility status among local low-income residents.
Since 1983, TXU Energy Aid has provided more than $40 million to selected social service agencies across Texas, helping to provide temporary bill-payment assistance to more than 300,000 local families in need.
“About three years ago, we donated another check to Waxahachie CARE,” Campbell said, noting the purpose is to make senior citizens aware that there is help.
“We want them to know that there are resources in the summer to help them pay their bills because they’re the ones most at risk during the summer,” she said.
Waxahachie CARE provides counseling and referrals, food and financial assistance.
