NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C - The Texas Industries Inc. cement plant in Midlothian was recently recognized for its outstanding safety record at the 49th annual Cement Industry Technical Conference.

Portland Cement Association presented the plant with a safety excellence award for operating for one million or more hours without a lost-time accident.

The plant also received a safety honor award for operating without a lost-time accident for at least the last two years.

The 2006 PCA Safety Awards recognize plants in four major categories: plants operating for one year without a lost-time accident; those operating two to four years and for five or more years without such an accident; and plants without a lost-time accident for the last 1 million or more hours.

Based in Skokie, Ill., the Portland Cement Association represents cement companies in the United States and Canada. It conducts market development, engineering, research, education, and public affairs programs.
