The Texas Department of Transportation will be making 4,386 traffic counts throughout seven counties including Ellis County, from June 4-19.
The 24-hour counts will be for “on” system roadways only, or those that belong to the state and federal government. This includes interstates, state highways, farm-to-market roads, loops, spurs and bypasses, but not city streets or county roads.
Accurate traffic counts are important because they are used for area growth projects and in statewide funding formulas.
The formulas used by TxDOT determine how much money will be made available to the seven county areas that make up Dallas, Denton, Collin, Rockwall, Ellis, Navarro and Kaufman counties.
Motorists are advised to drive with caution during this time as TxDOT’s contract personnel may be seen on bridges, overpasses and parked along various highways.
