Fire on the trailer portion of a tractor-trailer shut down a portion of southbound Interstate 35E early Thursday morning. First responders were dispatched to mile marker 398 at 2:20 a.m.

Waxahachie Fire Chief David Hudgins said the cab portion was already disconnected from the trailer when firefighters arrived to find the trailer heavily involved in fire. The fire from the trailer also caused a grass fire.

The highway was shut down by the Waxahachie Police Department, with mutual aid requested from members of Emergency Service District No. 6 Volunteer Fire Department, which provided a water tanker. The Texas Department of Transportation provided traffic control.

According to the reports, the fire was believed caused by hot brakes or a wheel bearing in the rear tires of the trailer, which was carrying meat as its cargo.

No injuries were reported from the driver or firefighters working the scene. The last unit cleared at 5:25 a.m.
