PALMER – A collision between two tractor-trailers early Monday morning claimed the life of a Dallas man.

The accident occurred at 3:59 a.m. at the 260-mile marker on Interstate 45. The driver of a northbound rig told authorities he swerved to miss a vehicle, with his tractor-trailer going through the median’s wire barrier into the southbound lanes. The northbound rig struck a southbound tractor-trailer, with both vehicles ending up on the southbound shoulder.

“The southbound driver was killed instantly from multiple blunt force injuries to the entire body,” said Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 Jackie Miller Jr., who pronounced the 46-year-old Dallas man dead at 4:58 a.m.

Miller ordered the body taken to the Dallas County medical examiner’s office. The deceased’s name was not available for release pending notification of relatives.

The driver of the southbound tractor-trailer was transported to Ennis Regional Medical Center and later transferred to a Dallas hospital. The driver was from Missouri City, Texas; information on his injuries was not available.

Both drivers were operating Freightliner tractor-trailers.

The southbound side of the interstate was shut down to one lane for a period of time as the accident was cleared. Responding to the scene were the Palmer Police Department, Palmer Fire and Rescue and the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office.
