Trunk sale at Waxahachie
The members of the Waxahachie Senior Center, 122 Park Hills Drive, will hold a trunk sale in the south parking lot of the center.
The sale begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 13, and goes until the last car leaves the lot. There will be household items, clothing, handmade crafts and much more. Spaces are available for $1 if you would like to participate.
Tables are available to rent for $3. All rental proceeds will go to the United Way.
Saturday night dance May 14
A Saturday night dance will be held Saturday, May 14 at the Country Lane Senior Community located at 133 Park Hills Dr. from 7-9 p.m. Admission is free with music provided by the Final Showdown Band. Snacks will be served. Come and enjoy the fun for an evening of music and dancing.
The Waxahachie High School will feature the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit and musical comedy, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” at 7 p.m. Friday, May 13, and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, May 14.
The setting for this performance is a small-town middle school with the zany plot centering around six quirky adolescents competing in a spelling bee run by three equally quirky grown-ups. A unique and especially fun aspect of this show is that four real audience members (or victims) are invited on stage to compete in the spelling bee alongside the six young
“Don’t worry you don’t have to be a good speller, just a good sport,” a spokesman said.
Admission will be $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors. The show is recommended for ages 10 and up.
Eta Omega Sorority will sponsor its quarterly blood drive for Carter Blood Care from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Baylor Family Medical Center parking lot, 505 N. U.S. Highway 77 in Waxahachie.

Bake sale, car wash fund raiser
Water Street Baptist Church will host a bake sale and car wash from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Chicken Express in Waxahachie. Proceeds will be used to send kids to camp.
The Builders Class of First United Methodist Church will have a shredding event Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. - noon to destroy documents and CDs from home or business to help prevent identity theft.
To safely dispose of documents, the requested tax deductible donation is $20 per 13-gallon trash bag, standard file box or equivalent, and $10 for smaller containers. Volume discounts are available.
Paper clips and metal clips do not need to be removed prior to shredding and documents need not be removed from binders or boxes. Document destruction can be certified if individuals bring a list of the items being destroyed.
Tax deduction receipts are available.

Church camp fundraising
Harvest Baptist Church will host a garage sale from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, in the Blockbuster parking lot in Waxahachie.
There are too many items to list.
All proceeds will be used to allow kids to attend church camp in Oklahoma this summer.
Old Fashioned Singing
The second weekend of concerts of Waxahachie’s Old Fashioned Singing will be Friday and Saturday, May 13-14 in the historic Chautauqua Auditorium in Getzendaner Park. Mother-Daughter Tea at Sims Library
Nicholas P. Sims Library would like to invite you to the Mother-Daughter Tea to be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14. Bring your mother or daughter and enjoy tea and hors d’oeuvres. Dani Muckleroy will be bringing her doll houses to display and lead a brief discussion about doll houses. No registration required.
Benefit car wash
Members of the Waxahachie Firefighters Association will host a car wash from noon-4 p.m. May 15.
All of the proceeds from the car wash will benefit the Relay For Life event in Waxahachie on May 20. Firefighters taking part in Sunday’s event are off-duty.
The event will be held in the parking lot of State Farm agent Steve Boulton’s office, located at 117 N. U.S. Highway 77 in Waxahachie.
