The community is invited to celebrate with Mattie Borders as she celebrates her 99th birthday.

From 10 a.m.-noon Friday, Aug. 26, there will be a reception for her at Citizens National Bank of Texas, 200 N. Elm St.

Her birthday will also be celebrated from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Samaria Baptist Church, 508 Martin Luther King.

WSA concert Aug. 28

The Waxahachie Symphony Association will host a special concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28 at First United Methodist Church in Waxahachie.

Kicking off the 2011-2012 season will be 14-year-old Qingxi Meng of China, who has played at Carnegie Hall.

The organization is hoping the concert will bring in area teens, who will have the opportunity to visit with the musical prodigy.

Students will be admitted free of charge to the Aug. 28 concert.

The WSA is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, dedicated to providing quality music to the citizens of Ellis County at a cost accessible to everyone. A family subscription is available for $75. Seniors (age 60 and older) receive a 20 percent discount for the season ticket.

City of Lancaster hosts Seniors’ Masquerade Promo

The Lancaster Senior Life Center cordially invites all seniors to enjoy a night of music, dancing and refreshments at the Senior Masquerade Prom at 7 p.m.  Friday, Aug. 26. Masks will be provided for this event and patrons will enjoy prizes and entertainment. Tickets can be purchased for $3  with a Life Center membership or $5 dollars general admission.

Health-Fest Saturday

The Ellis County Back Institute will hold a mid-summer health fest from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday, Aug. 27 at 905 Ferris Ave., Waxahachie.

The event, sponsored by Dr. Jozef Verhaert and Dr. Stephen Johnson, will include free breakfast, bounce house, face painting, balloon animals, free optometrist screening from Eye Matters, free hearing screening from Lone Star Hearing Center, free dental information from Family Smiles, free spinal scans from the Ellis County Back Institute and free chair massages from Body Works Spa.

Participants may also enter a drawing to win a Wii and coach bag.
