Packers-Steelers weekend at the Pub
College Street Pub in downtown Waxahachie is hosting a special Packers-Steelers weekend celebration in honor of this weekend’s big game.
From 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Waxahachie native and former Pittsburgh Steeler Chuck Beatty, along with several of his former teammates, will be at the Pub to share NFL stories and meet fans.
“We’ll also have a special menu for both Saturday and Sunday featuring popular items from Green Bay and Pittsburgh, like Johnsonville brats and a Pittsburgh sandwich — as well as traditional football favorites,” said Pub owner Wayne Strickland.
In addition to the menu items, Strickland said the Pub will be serving regional beers from Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.
“We’re also going to open at 2 p.m. on Sunday and want folks to come out, have a good time and cheer on their favorite team,” Strickland added.
Registration for the 2011 Waxahachie Youth Baseball League spring season continues from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Waxahachie Optimist Youth Center, 219 Patrick St., adjacent to the Optimist Park baseball fields.
WYBA provides competitive recreational baseball programs in seven age-based division for children ages 3-18.
WYBA will continue spring registration through the month of February, with signup events taking place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. each Saturday at the Waxahachie Optimist Club.

he craft will feature children making Valentine’s Day cards for friends and family. The program will be presented from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5.
Sixth annual Jazz Cafe’
The 2011 Jazz Cafe’ will be hosted Feb. 5 at the Waxahachie Civic Center featuring the Waxahachie Jazz Orchestra and guest musicians James and Keith Davis.
Enjoy an evening of jazz music from the “Big Band” era, including music from Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and more. The evening will include a buffet dinner, silent auction and dancing. All proceeds benefit the Waxahachie ISD band program.

The Forreston Cemetery Association will hold its annual board meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6.
The meeting will be held at the Baptist church located on Pecan Street in Forreston.
