Fundraiser at Oma’s

Nine-year-olds Jimmy Mismash and Jackson Leath, with the help of Oma’s Jiffy Burger owner Jimmy Poarch, will be holding a benefit throughout the day Saturday to raise funds for the Mary Jane Eubank memorial scholarship fund.

From 7 a.m. until closing, 10 percent of all sales at Oma’s will be donated to the fund. Mismash, Leath and many of their classmates at Northside Elementary School will be on hand to assist during the day.

WISD band concert

With the holiday season here, the Waxahachie ISD band program has announced its schedule of holiday concerts for the community.

All concerts will be held at the Waxahachie High School Fine Arts Center and will begin at 7 p.m. There is no admission charge.

The WISD band holiday concert series includes:

Saturday, Dec. 15 — All Region Jazz concert

Tuesday, Dec. 18 — Turner Middle School band holiday concert

Christmas in Maypearl

Maypearl businesses will be open and giving away free items from 6-8 p.m. Dec. 14. Residents are encouraged to bring a toy for the Angel Tree. Carriage rides and pictures with Santa will be available at the feed store.

Parents night out

Ferris Avenue Baptist Church will host a parents night out from 6-11 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at 1401 Ferris Ave.

“This event is for parents to have a date night, do some shopping and have some fun while we watch your kids,” a spokesman said.

‘My Favorite Christmas’

The Ennis Public Theatre presents the comedy drama, “My Favorite Christmas,” by Bill Rhoten in performance at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, through Dec. 15. A Sunday matinee will be held at 2:30 Dec. 16, with a Monday show at 8 p.m. Dec. 17.

The storyline relates how the Osborn family gets a visit from Santa, but who’s really in that suit? Young Ben’s doubts about Santa are dispelled, while little sister Angela learns the real meaning of giving. Both experience a Christmas they will never forget.

The theatre is located at 2705C N. Kaufman St., Ennis.

Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for students and seniors and $6 for student rush.

Toys for Kids event

The Waxahachie Fire Department and KBEC 1390 will have its annual Toys for Kids event from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday in the KBEC building parking lot. The Flea Market will host a live broadcast from 8-10 a.m. and will be encouraging the community to drop off unwrapped toys. Also, Santa Claus will be in attendance and available to have his photo taken.

Again this year, the Waxahachie Mother’s Club will offer photographs for all ages with Santa Claus.

Santa will be available at the Kids Store at JCPenney from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, and from 1-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec.16.

The money raised through this project benefits children in the Waxahachie area.

Parents’ day out

The No Fences Cowboy Church in Milford will have a free parents’ day out from noon-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, for children ages 2-12. There will be no charges for the service, but donations will be accepted. For more information, call 972-935-3944.

Auditions

Ennis Public Theatre will hold auditions from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, for Neil Simon’s “Proposals.”

Needed are one African-American man and woman from age 40 to 60, one man age 42 to 58, one woman age 38 to 58, three men age 20 to 28 and two women age 20 to 28.

The show will run at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Feb. 1-28, with a Sunday matinee at 2:30 Feb. 24.

After Hours Improv Comedy Show

After Hours Improv Comedy Show will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Texas Theater, 110 W. Main St., Waxahachie. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children age 10 and younger.

Parents shopping night out

First Baptist Ovilla is providing safe childcare from 5-10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15.

“We will offer dinner and entertainment for your children while you get your shopping done,” a spokesman said, noting the charge is $20 for the first child and $15 for each additional child.

GWRRA Toy Drive

Gold Wing Road Riders Association, chapter W-2, will host its annual toy drive from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, at Citizens National Bank.

New wrapped toys or cash will be accepted with all toys and proceeds benefiting local charities.

“This toy drive is to simply help the kids in Ellis County,” a spokesman said.

‘Christmas at Grace’

The community is invited to attend “Christmas at Grace” from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at Grace Church of Ovilla, 519 Westmoreland.

The evening will feature the church’s youth group and worship team.

The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. when the youth group holds its annual chili cook-off. Judges from the community will decide the best chili with prizes for four places. There are no entry fees. The worship team will then lead a sing-along of Christmas carols.

“This will be fun for the whole family,” a spokesman said, noting the event concludes with the annual dessert auction fund-raiser.

“The dessert auction will raise money for the church planting mission trip this summer to Venezuela,” the spokesman said. “We have 43 students and adults participating in the trip. This is a great time to get some creative desserts for the holiday season or just enjoy them that night by sharing with everyone at your table. Come celebrate with us as a family of Grace.”
