SAN ANGELO, Texas (AP) - Drivers stuck with penalties because they have not paid for using some toll roads in Texas could get a break.
The Texas Transportation Commission has ordered the Transportation Department staff to develop a program to reduce violation fees on delinquent toll accounts.
A statement from the department says the plan was approved Thursday by commissioners meeting in San Angelo. Details could be announced later this summer.
Violators would be required to open a TxTag account and still pay the toll balance as part of the "one-time offer."
The offer does not apply to non-TxDOT roll roads, such as the North Texas Tollway Authority, the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority or the Harris County Toll Road Authority.
