HOUSTON (AP) - A Houston firefighter is among a dozen people arrested as part of a sweeping federal drug trafficking and money laundering sting.

Thirty-nine-year-old Christopher Fillmore was taken into custody Wednesday morning. The Houston Chronicle reports the arrests took place in Houston, Brownsville and McAllen.

Those taken into custody are believed to have ties to the Zetas, a violent gang associated with Mexican drug cartels.

Fillmore has been a Houston firefighter since June 2002. Houston fire department officials said they would cooperate with investigators, calling Fillmore's arrest "an unfortunate incident."

It was not immediately known whether Fillmore has an attorney.
