The Waxahachie Police Department has arrested a 17-year-old in connection with Sunday’s shooting of a 23-year-old man inside a residence in the 300 block of Wyatt St.

Garrett Hamilton of Waxahachie was taken into custody on an arrest warrant at the police department, where he was interviewed and subsequently transferred to Wayne McCollum Detention Center, detective Lt. Todd Woodruff said.

Hamilton has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with a bond set at $75,000.

The incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m., with officers responding to a call of a person shot at a home.

“We arrived to find an adult male who had sustained a gunshot wound,” Woodruff said. “The suspect, an acquaintance of the victim, had already fled the scene.”

Emergency personnel transported the victim, who had suffered a non-life-threatening wound, to Methodist Hospital in Dallas. Police have not released the victim’s name.
