The city is inviting everyone to attend its first Taste of Red Oak event from 5:30-9:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 27, at the municipal center.
“This will be the perfect time to promote our local restaurants to show everyone what we have to offer here in the city,” said Lauren Whatley, the city’s tourism director. “We have some great restaurants and some great musical talents here that are not well known and, this way, they’re able to get their name out there and show what they can do. The community has a lot of great talent and I’m glad to be able to help them show it.”
Attendees will be able to mingle, enjoy music by the Bait House Stompers and enjoy food samples from numerous restaurants.
Participating restaurants include Heather’s, Randy’s BBQ, Becky’s Tea Room, Joey’s Burrito, Starbucks Coffee, Fried Steakhouse, Whataburger, Brookshires, Kolache Depot, Joe’s Place, Casey’s Frozen Custard, Bubba’s Barbecue and others.
“We may have more restaurants to participate but this is what we have as of right now,” Whatley said, noting there are plans to make this an annual event with the help and support of the community.
For family entertainment, there will be a display by local artists at the library, a silent auction with proceeds benefiting North Ellis County Outreach and clowns to entertain children.
“We will have a vast amount of items up for bid during the silent auction,” said Denise Butler, director of North Ellis County Outreach.
Among the items up for bid are a $500 gift certificate from McFadden Dental Group, Bohemian Crystal Chandelier, a Coach purse, a complete rack with wine and glasses, several gift certificates, wall paintings, gift baskets, vintage luggage, jewelry and more.
“We are expecting great support and a good turnout from local residents and surrounding areas,” Whatley said. “And because this is the first time we’ve done this, it should be a fun event.”
“Right now, we are in a crunch for our building so we look forward to the community support to help us accomplish our goal of purchasing a new building,” Butler said. “All the money we receive from this event will go toward us purchasing a new building.”
Red Oak Town Village, Citizens National Bank, Jefferson Bank and Blue Green Resorts are sponsoring tables for the event.
Tickets are $5 at the door and children ages 12 and younger are admitted free.
