RED OAK – The Red Oak Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect responsible for the Monday morning robbery of Prosperity Bank, located at 500 N. I-35E service road.

“About 9:30 a.m., it was business as usual at the bank and employees were waiting on their customers. A Hispanic male wearing a black ball cap, a maroon T-shirt, blue jeans and dark-colored boots walked in,” Red Oak Police Chief Craig Rudolph said. “Soon as the next clerk comes available, he walked up and presented her with a handwritten note demanding the money.”

The clerk complied with the suspect’s demands and placed the money inside of a trash bag, Rudolph said, saying the suspect then left the bank and headed northbound on the interstate in a silver-colored compact car. Once the suspect left, employees locked the bank and notified police.

No weapon was displayed and witnesses did not see an accomplice in the vehicle, Rudolph said.

Police described the suspect as a Hispanic male, 40 to 50 years old, from 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing from 190 to 210 pounds.

Rudolph said the suspect was inside the bank for only minutes before leaving the scene.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is assisting the police department in the investigation.

No arrest was reported prior to press time.
