It was a dream come true for not only the 170 students of St. Joseph Catholic School, but the teaching staff members were almost equally enthralled as a new playground was dedicated and blessed by the Catholic Parish Pastor Fr. Martin Moreno.

The project began in 2006 with fundraising and private donations from school parents, school grandparents and St. Joseph parishioners.

The new playground, purchased at GAMETIME Total Recreation Products Inc., replaces the original wooden playground, which was built by the parish Knights of Columbus when the school opened in 1992.

A crowd of students, ranging from pre-kindergarten 3 to eighth grade, sat patiently awaiting the go ahead to try out the new playground, but not before Moreno led the students and visitors in a dedication prayer and blessing – and not before the faculty and school administrators “tested” the new addition to the school.

SJCS principal Mary Kay Volker expressed her thanks to every individual and entity who had a part in providing the new playground.

“Hearing the screams and laughter of the students playing on the playground was well worth the wait of completion of the total playground project,” she said.
