HILL COUNTY – Several Ellis County law enforcement agencies assisted a Hill County trooper Monday afternoon in a search about two miles south of the Hill-Ellis county line.

“There was a Hill County trooper who got into a chase with a pickup that had what are believed to be 11 or 12 illegal immigrants in it,” Milford Police Chief Carlos Phoenix said. “When the truck pulled over, everyone ran.”

The location was about two miles south of the line between Hill and Ellis counties, Phoenix said.

Agencies responding to assist included Milford and Italy police departments, along with several Ellis County deputies, constables and troopers. A Department of Public Safety helicopter also was brought in for the search.

Further information was not immediately available from the Hill County Highway Patrol Office. Phoenix said the trooper was able to take one person into custody, but efforts to locate the other men who fled from the vehicle were unsuccessful.
