The Waxahachie Salvation Army will host a Boys and Girls Club Day for Kids on Saturday, Sept. 15, according to director Stephanie Goncalves.

“It will be a day of activities and fun for the kids. We will have a bouncing cage and a lot of other activities,” Goncalves said, noting a recent highlight for the club was a trip to Camp Hoblitzelle near Midlothian.

“This year we took 26 youth to camp. They enjoyed horseback riding, archery, swimming, canoeing, putt-putt golf as well as Bible study,” she said. “Next year we plan to take 80 kids to Camp Hoblitzelle.”

In September, the Salvation Army is sponsoring a School for Performing Arts.

“We wanted to reach out not only to youth who have interest in sports, but those who like the arts. We have three teachers in this program and, right now, we need a brass (instrument) teacher,” Goncalves said. “Also this fall we are beginning a program called Power Hour, which will be an after-school tutoring program for kids in all subjects.”
