Relay For Life of Central Ellis County was held Friday night in Waxahachie and raised about $124,000 to benefit the American Cancer Society.

More than 712 people registered to take part in this year’s event, with teams raising money through different fundraisers such as car washes, selling lunches and hosting raffles prior to the Relay itself.

During the Relay, held at Waxahachie Ninth Grade Academy’s George Solis Gymnasium due to the rainy weather, teams held additional on-site fundraisers, selling everything from food to jewelry to massages. A large silent auction was held, along with a raffle and several fundraising contests.

The final total will be reported June 21 at Relay For Life’s award ceremony, which will be held at the Red Oak Municipal Building, located at 200 Lakeview Parkway. The ceremony is open for the public to attend. Additional donations can be given at that time.
