RED OAK – The Red Oak Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at about 12:19 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of Maple Leaf Road. Upon arrival firefighters found that two structures were involved.

“The fire was also crossing four different properties and before we control the fire we ended up having four total structures that were involved. It took us about 30 minutes to contain the fire,” Red Oak Fire Chief Eric Thompson said.

“We think a sparking electrical line started the fire. The electrical line was knocked down by high winds and broke it loose. So, with the winds, that caused the grass fire to start,” he said.

The residents were home at the time of the fire and reported it to dispatch, with no injuries reported by firefighters or residents. Mutual aid was received from the Glenn Heights, Ovilla and Lancaster fire departments, with 20 firefighters working the scene. Also responding were units from the Red Oak Police Department, East Texas EMS and Oncor.

“Two of the structures suffered heavy damage and two are considered to be a total loss,” Thompson said. “The cause of the fire is to be considered accidental in nature.”
