Waxahachie police are investigating the death of a San Antonio man.

The incident occurred at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday, with officers responding to a call of shots fired at a motel located in the 800 block of S. Interstate 35E.

Upon arrival, officers were told shots were fired as several people left the scene of an argument at one of the hotel’s rooms, according to a Waxahachie Police Department press release.

“Once officers learned the names of the suspects, additional officers responded to an apartment in the 1200 block of W. U.S. Highway 287 Bypass in an attempt to locate the persons responsible,” according to the release. “As officers surrounded the suspect’s apartment, a gunshot was heard.”

Officers entered the apartment and found Wesley Corley, 24, of San Antonio dead at the scene from a gunshot wound, with the release indicating the incident remains under investigation.
