A varsity football player was transported by Air Evac air ambulance to Parkland Hospital in Dallas Monday morning. The Advantage Academy student showed signs of heat related illness during an early morning practice.
Members of the Waxahachie Fire Department were dispatched to the school at 10:20 a.m. along with East Texas EMS. Firefighters were on scene for 30 minutes and set up a landing zone for the helicopter.
“Right now, we have moved all of our practices until further notice indoors,” school spokesperson Sherri Busalacchi said.
Busalacchi said staff members moved the player into the shade and called 911 for assistance. When EMTs arrived on the site, an air ambulance was called for extra precaution, she said.
The student’s parents were notified and were with him at the hospital along with school staff members, she said. The name of the player was not released by the school.
As of press time, the student’s condition was unknown.
